The Learning Commons is one of the hubs for learning in school. It is intended to be a flexible and collaborative space for you to acquire and create knowledge. You will have access to a variety of technologies in the Learning Commons along with both fiction and non-fiction literature.

Textbooks & Library Resources

Resources come to the student instead of students coming to the resources.

Students can borrow books this year by placing an order on the “Library Request Form” (link below). Start by searching eLibray for the book they would like to sign out, the eLibrary link is on the request form, and can also be found on Quick Links on the our Colonel Irvine website just sign-in and start your search. Please be careful when searching eLibrary that you are looking at Colonel Irvine School or it should say “HERE” for our book collection as we cannot borrow from other schools.

Fill out all of the information on the Library Request Form (link below) and hit submit at the bottom of the form. Mrs. Woodhouse will fill your order and deliver the books to your classroom the next day. At this time you can sign out 2 books per person and they can be signed out for 2 weeks.

Please return your books in the tub at the very front of the learning commons. Returned books are quarantined for 3 days before becoming available again.

Students may also be assigned textbooks for their use during a unit of study.

Families are expected to cover the costs of resources that are lost, stolen or destroyed while in their child’s care.

Learning Commons at the CBE

Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.

School Literary Materials Selection

Related to Ministerial Order (#034/2025), Standards for the Selection, Availability, and Access of School Library Materials, CBE has published an administrative regulation AR3051: School Literary Materials Selection. Families and community members can request a review or reconsideration of a literary resource in a school's learning commons by completing the School Library Materials Reconsideration Challenge Request through their local school.

CBE also has an eLibrary online tool available to families, students and staff, which is an online catalogue for all CBE school libraries with detailed information on books, DVD’s and other resources that are available to borrow.

Additionally, parents and legal guardians are welcome to review classroom library collections by contacting your child's school.
