Good afternoon Colonel Irvine School Community.
下午好! 学文学校社区,
Today was a non-instructional day for CBE students. For teachers, it was our System Indigenous Professional learning day called Maatoomsii’Pookaiks (Children First). Staff heard from Elders, Indigenous students and CBE leadership about how we can better acknowledge the land we live on, understand more about Indigenous worldviews and better support students within our schools.
Yesterday we had our Remembrance Day ceremonies to honour our past and present Armed Forces members. We'd to like to bring special honor to those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom and for those who continue to do so around the world. We are so fortunate to live in Canada. We hope the ceremonies help students to reflect on contributions of past and present military operations, to think about how they can solve conflict through dialogue and understanding, and perhaps encourage others to join the Armed Forces in the future. We want to express our gratitude to all the students and families that contributed to the poppy fund and the Veterans’ food bank drive. Also, thank you to our cadet members, student speakers, Grade 8 and 9 band members, and the teachers who helped organize the ceremonies. There will be other special events and ceremonies taking place around our city on Monday, November 11th. Good luck to all our athletes and coaches on the basketball teams as they will be playing finals next week. More information on the game schedule is below. We’d like to thank all our student and teacher volunteers for supporting all our home games this season.
Please note that teachers will not be sending a weekly learning update today. We hope that everyone will enjoy the fall break this year and we will see you back on Thursday, November 14th.
Thank you for your continued support.
Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood

High School (Grade 9’s):
We are starting to plan for high school transitions. This will be ongoing between now and the start of March. We will put all information related to high school transitions in this section moving forward. If you have a student in grade 9, please check this information regularly.
This past Monday, we shared with our grade 9’s the importance of the first semester report card marks. Their marks will determine what courses they can select for high school. For parents with students going into Gr. 10 next year we will be holding in-person and virtual information sessions for parents during Parent Teacher Interviews. These sessions will give a brief overview of what you can expect over the next few months with regards to getting ready for high school, and will also provide time for Q&A. In the meantime, the CBE High School website is a great place to start to learn about high school information. You may also wish to visit the individual high schools’ websites.
On Wednesday, November 27 we will have an in-person session in the Learning Commons at the school at 7:00-7:30pm.
We will hold a repeat session online on Thursday, November 28, at 7-7:30pm.
