Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community,

下午好! 学文学校社区

We would like to thank all of you who joined us for learning conferences this week. It was nice to connect with familiar faces and meet new ones. We look forward to continuing these conversations throughout the year. If you were not able to connect with the teachers and would still like to, please reach out by email to the teachers directly. Thank you to those Grade 9 parent/guardians that joined us for the drop-in high school information sessions. Please continue to monitor the high school section below for more information.

We had all the items from our Lost and Found out for pick up during conferences. Please see the attached pictures and if any of it is your student’s please send them to pick it up. Any clothing not collected by the end of next week will be donated.

We had a successful field trip to MRU Building community program and basketball game. Students witnessed exciting performances from The Kakatosikks Association and Dwight from Tribe Artist Society. The students also had the chance to get pictures and autographs from the MRU basketball players! Thank you to Ms. Yeo for organizing this field trip and Mr. Luu, Ms. Vo, Mr. Prather, Mr. Bester, and Mr. Brouwer for supervising!

A shout out to our Junior Girls for winning the final game against Simon Fraser. Congratulations on a great season.

The wrestling team continues to practice and prepare for upcoming meets. Tuesday the team  had an unforgettable opportunity to work with Carol Huynh, Olympic gold and bronze medalist, 4x world medalist, commonwealth and Pan Am games champion. She visited our school to run a special wrestling practice this week. Carol Huynh led an inspiring session, sharing her world-class techniques and personal journey to success. Our students had the unique opportunity to learn from one of the best, gaining valuable skills and motivation that will stay with them for years to come.

This year, Colonel Irvine's winter concert will be on December 10th at 6:30PM in the Diefenbaker High School Gym. Tickets are free and can be reserved through this link: https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/ticketing/2024-colonel-irvine-school-winter-band-concert. Please consider making a small donation through the link towards the band program - 100% of the funds will go towards enhancing the band experience by being applied toward fees for clinicians, guest conductors, bussing, etc. Thank you very much for your support!

A reminder that unless it is colder than –20 celsius students are expected to go outside for 20 minutes at lunch time. Please make sure that they have appropriate clothing for this.

Lastly, we would like to ask that if you have any old Lego hanging around at home that your students aren’t using and you are ready to get rid of that we would appreciate it if you would consider donating it to the school. Many students need little sensory breaks during their day and this is one way we can support them.

Thank you for your continued support.

Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood

School Council Update

Holiday Appreciation Lunch for Teachers and School Staff
Colonel Irvine Parent Advisory Association (CIPAA) would like to support the school administration for all the amazing work they do by organizing a holiday appreciation lunch on December 13 for all the teachers and staff. Based on last year's holiday appreciation lunch, we anticipate that the cost will be approximately $20 per attendee and the school has confirmed that there are 55 staff members. We therefore estimate the cost to be approximately $1100.

The decision was made at the November School Council/CIPPA meeting to fund this event from the General Account. However, please note that in lieu of gifts of appreciation for the school staff, this year we will be accepting donations to use towards this appreciation lunch.  If you would like to, or are able to participate, cash or cheques can be dropped off at the front office.  Please be sure to indicate the funds are for the HOLIDAY APPRECIATION LUNCH. Ideally, this money would be sent in prior to the lunch.

Any additional funds raised less the expenses for the lunch will be donated to the purchase of food hampers to support school families during this holiday season.

We give a heart-felt thank you to the parent community and amazing team of educators and staff and wish you all a very happy holiday season!
