Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School community,

下午好! 学文学校社区,

Thank you to parents/guardians that joined our council meeting online on Tuesday. We have still not had anyone step into the Fundraising Co-ordinator role and are now looking for people who would be willing to take on a single fundraiser. We are hoping this will be easier parents to take on. Please see School Council blurb below for more information.

We are grateful that the weather was so nice for the field trips on Wednesday. Students were excited beforehand and had lots of stories to share afterwards. We’d like to thank all the teachers in charge that planned these opportunities for students and also a big thank you to all the parents/guardians that came along to support and make these trips possible.

We have been fortunate to have really nice weather this year so far. We had our third fire drill today because of this. Next week looks much colder, so please help your students be ready with appropriate clothing as they will go outside for the last 20 minutes of lunch every day.

On Wednesday before the field trip we asked our Gr 9 students to share questions they had about high school with us. Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood will have an assembly with all grade 9’s soon to share with them information about high school, high school open houses and high school tours. For the next several months we will have a high school section below for grade 9 parents/guardians to keep track of information, open houses, and timelines. We will also have an information session for parents. Please see below.

Lastly, congratulations to the boys and girls soccer teams who won their semi-final games this week. The boys will play their final game at HD Cartwright on Monday, and the girls will play their final game at Our lady Of Assumption field on Tuesday.

Thank you for your continued support.

Ms. Ko & Ms. Dalwood

School Council

Colonel Irvine School Council recognizes parents are busy and after further thought, we have decided to eliminate the formal role of Fund Raising Coordinator and try a different approach for our smaller scale fundraising efforts.

Typically, CISC aims to raise approximately $3000 a year to fund its general account so that it can contribute to things such as staff appreciation holiday and end-of-year lunches, and the grade 9 farewell celebration.  CISC is therefore looking for parent volunteers to coordinate a small fund raiser aimed to raise approximately $2,000 for the CISC general account and another parent (or group of parents) of a current grade 9 student, to coordinate another fundraiser aimed at raising $1,000 specifically for the grade 9 farewell.

You are welcome to bring your own fund-raising ideas or borrow the ones CISC volunteers have used in the past (Purdy’s chocolates ready for pick up before the holidays, Beef Jerky, Perogies etc.). We know there are some creative, talented parents out there and look forward to hearing from you if you are interested and would be willing to help us out for his current school calendar year.

Sincerely

Colonel Irvine School Council

High School (Grade 9’s):

We are starting to plan for high school transitions. This will be ongoing between now and the start of March. We will put all information related to high school transitions in this section moving forward. If you have a student in grade 9, please check this information regularly.

Within the next few weeks, we will have an assembly with the Grade 9’s to share more information with them about high school.

For parents with students going into Gr. 10 next year we will be holding in-person and virtual information sessions for parents during Parent Teacher Interviews. These sessions will give a brief overview of what you can expect over the next few months with regards to getting ready for high school, and will also provide time for Q&A. In the meantime, the CBE High School website is a great place to start to learn about high school information. You may also wish to visit the individual high schools’ websites.

On Wednesday, November 27 we will have an in-person session in the Learning Commons at the school at 7:00-7:30pm.

We will hold a repeat session online on Thursday, November 28, at 7-7:30pm. Link below.
