Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community,

下午好! 学文学校社区,

September was a busy month for us. We’d like to thank families and students for participating in our Terry Fox fundraisers so far. Our toonies for Terry and bubble tea fundraiser today have been well received. We’ll continue to the end of December to hopefully reach our goal of $4000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Thank you for also donating online at https://schools.terryfox.ca/ColonelIrvine

Our school photo day will be Thursday, October 10th.

We are still looking for volunteers for Wednesday, October 16th. Every homeroom will be going on a field trip depending on grade level. In order for these trips to go ahead, we need more volunteers to support us. Fees for these trips and the Term 1 option classes are now payable online in your myCBE account.

Our first set of parent-teacher conferences will be held in November. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns. We want you to work together with parents and guardians to best support the learning of our students.

Students will be participating in the OUR school survey on October 15. This data helps us make decisions about how to best support students. If you’d like more details about the survey they are further down in our message.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood

We will be holding an ONLINE information session for anyone who is interested in having their student attend October 9, 2024: 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm. Video call link: https://meet.google.com/ugq-ohhi-xvx   If you are interested and unable to make the meeting, please email Ms. Yeo at yoyeo@cbe.ab.ca and she will send you the information after Oct. 9th

Our School Survey

Colonel Irvine will be participating in an online school perception survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This anonymous survey is completely voluntary for all CBE students.  Please find the details of the survey implementation below.

CBE’s Education Plan prioritizes student voice and well-being in our decision-making processes.  Responses from this survey are used at the system and school level to recognize and improve what is necessary for students to feel safe, welcome, and cared for when at school.

Grades 4-12 students provide feedback on:

  • sense of belonging
  • positive relationships
  • anxiety
  • feeling safe at school
  • life satisfaction
  • general health
  • orientation to well-being
  • goal-oriented
  • self-regulation
  • cultural awareness of others

Additionally, Grades 6-12 students provide feedback on:

  • depression
  • self-esteem
  • cultural awareness of self

Demographic questions are also asked on this survey for norming purposes. These are:

Grades 4-12 general

  • age, gender, Indigenous status, immigrant status, home language.

Grades 6-12 specific

  • grade repeater, reasons for changing schools, disability or medical conditions that limits participation in school activities or learning.

At Colonel Irvine, our OurSCHOOL Student Survey administration plan is as follows:

Who: Grades 5-9

When: October 15, 2024

If you have questions or would like to request more information about Colonel Irvine’s upcoming implementation of the OurSCHOOL Student Survey, please contact Nicole Dalwood (nadalwood@cbe.ab.ca)
