Good afternoon. Colonel Irvine School Community,
下午好! 学文学校社区,
We had a very busy week with the start of regular classes this past Tuesday. We’d like to thank the students for their patience as we worked together to sort out missing option classes and balance class sizes. We are continuing to register and welcome new students to our school.
We finished the week off with our welcome back BBQ. Students had a hot dog lunch with their peers from their homerooms. It was a terrific way to welcome our students back and we were joined by our School Resource Officer Sabrina Shaw, who enjoyed handing out hot dogs and getting to know our students and staff.
Next Friday we will hold our first fire drill. This is the first of 6 practice fire drills and two lockdowns that we will complete this year. Students will be notified before the first two fire drills and of all practice lockdowns.
On Wednesday, next week will be hosting Meet the Teacher. This event runs from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. It is a drop-in format and you are not required to attend the whole time. Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood will have a brief talk in the main gym at 6:00pm to kick-start the evening.
Just a heads up that our first parent council meeting will be Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30pm. Executive positions must be filled for us to have a school council. This first meeting will be at the school starting at 6:30pm in the learning commons. Our parent council is a huge support to our school and student learning, they also provide parent voice to administration. If you want more information, there will be a representative available at Meet the Teacher. We have put their blurb first after our message this week. All other school information can be found under the Parent Council blurb.
We have also received confirmation that we will have four modular classrooms added to the school for the next school year. More information is below.
Thank you for your continued support and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend.
Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood

inform | Modular Classrooms for Colonel Irvine School
Dear families,
We are happy to share that the Government of Alberta has approved four modular classrooms for Colonel Irvine School. Announced in July 2024, these modulars will add 100 student spaces to your school. We estimate that the modular installation will begin in spring 2025 and be ready before the end of the school year.
Measures will be taken to ensure the safety of students and community members who use the playground or school site during construction. This includes enclosing the construction area, scheduling work to avoid disrupting learning, and operating within specific hours according to municipal bylaws.
You will continue to be updated about construction once installation begins this spring.
If you have any questions about this work, you may email accommodation@cbe.ab.ca.
Thank you,
Calgary Board of Education

Parking Reminders:
Please do NOT use the bus lane in front of the school to drop students off or pick them up. Buses can arrive anywhere between 8:00-8:25am and parents parked in the bus lane often create an unsafe environment for students and other traffic, especially in the morning. If we see you doing this, we will ask you to move.
Please help us make sure that students (or parents!) are using the marked crosswalks by the school. Please DO NOT jaywalk across the street – this is both unsafe and illegal. Also, do not use the staff parking lot as a drop-off zone.
Lock Bicycle in Courtyard to Prevent Theft
We encourage students to use the bike rack in our courtyard. Unfortunately, we had a couple of bikes stolen several years ago from out front when bikes were locked on the front rails of the school.

Gym Strip
Irvine gym strips are for sale. The T-shirts and shorts are $15 each and the hoodies are $25 each. We encourage students to purchase Irvine gear as it promotes a sense of community. However, it is not mandatory. The online payment will be available within the next couple of weeks, please make sure to send your child a printed copy of the payment receipt along with the gym strip order form (that P.E. teachers handed out). If there is no access to a printer at home, students can print it at school using the computers.
