School Designation Changes for Panorama Hills and Country Hills

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As the City of Calgary continues to grow, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) is committed to providing strong, stable learning environments that keep peers together, while working to alleviate enrolment pressures.

Why am I receiving this notice?

According to CBE records you live in the Panorama Hills or Country Hills community, and your child(ren) or current school may be impacted by the designation changes at the following schools, beginning the 2026-27 school year.

This notice will provide you with the information you need to know.

What are the changes for the Panorama Hills Community?

Starting in the 2026-27 school year, kindergarten to Grade 5 Regular Program students living in the area shown on the first map (Map 1) will be re-designated from Panorama Hills School to Buffalo Rubbing Stone School (Map 2).

This means:

All new Kindergarten to Grade 5 registrations for the 2026-27 school year and beyond will be designated to Buffalo Rubbing Stone School.
Current kindergarten to Grade 4 families can choose to stay at Panorama Hills School until Grade 5.
Current Grade 4 students choosing to transfer to Buffalo Rubbing Stone School for Grade 5 will attend three different schools in three years.

Note, there are no changes for students currently designated to Panorama Hills School who live outside of the Boundary Adjustment Area (Map 1).

What are the changes for the Country Hills Community?

Starting in the 2026-27 school year, there are several changes affecting the Country Hills Community, as follows:

Kindergarten to Grade 5, including new registrations, will be re-designated from Alex Munro and Simons Valley Schools to Panorama Hills School (Map 3).
Grades 6 to 9, including new registrations, will be re-designated from Alex Munro, Simons Valley, Colonel Irvine and Sir John A. Macdonald Schools to Valley Creek School (Map 4).
Families have the option to stay at their current schools until completion of Grades 5 or 9, or transfer to the newly designated school.
Current Grade 4 and 8 students choosing to transfer will attend three different schools in three years.
Students choosing to stay at Sir John A. Macdonald School will continue to use Calgary Transit.

How do I register my child for the school next year?

Current CBE students living in Panorama Hills and Country Hills communities and are included in the designation changes outlined in this notice, must inform their current principal by Friday March 13, 2026, of their final decision to stay at their current school or transfer to the designated school. Failure to notify the principal of your choice, will result in your child(ren) being automatically designated to the new school.

Any student new to the CBE is required to register online by visiting our New Student Registration page. Registration for the 2026-27 school year starts January 2026.

How will students get to school?

Current students entering Grades 5 and 9 who choose to stay at their current school will have access to transportation services for the 2026-27 school year only. All other students choosing to stay at their current school, will now be considered out-of-attendance area and may apply for transportation as conditional riders. Transportation will end June 30, 2027, and families choosing to remain at their current school will need to have alternative (non-CBE) transportation for 2027-28 school year onward.

CBE students are eligible for transportation to their designated school, if they live beyond the walk zone. Please note transportation for middle and junior high school students can include yellow school bus service or Calgary Transit. Please visit the CBE Busing & Transportation page for more information.
