Good Afternoon Colonel Irvine School Community,

下午好! 学文学校社区

This week, the school completed its first fire drill of the trimester. We ask for your support in reminding students to exit the building quietly and in an orderly manner during drills and emergencies. Staying calm and quiet helps staff give instructions and ensures everyone’s safety.

As we approach Provincial Achievement Test practices and tests in April, May and June we would like to remind all parents/guardians of the Alberta Education requirement that students are not to have cellphones and other personal mobile devices on them in class. In our school, this means Grade 7-9 students can leave them in their lockers and grade 5 and 6 students can keep them in their backpacks. Having one of these devices with you during a Provincial Achievement Test will result in a zero on the test. These rules regarding personal mobile devices help to reduce distractions, maximize learning time, support student mental health, and reduce opportunities for cyberbullying during the school day.

In April, May, and June, we have lots of field trip opportunities for students. We ask that if you have not recently paid your school fees in your myCBE account to please do this. We would also like to remind parents/guardians that going offsite on a field trip is a privilege and that if a student cannot be trusted in class and/or school, they may not be permitted on field trips. Student behaviors are outlined in CBE’s Student Code of Conduct (AR 6005).

We are starting some of our planning for next year. During option classes on April 22 and 23, our grade 6, 7 and 8 students will select option courses in Powerschool for next year. We will send a separate message to parents with more information about this.

Thank you for your continued support.

Ms. Ko & Mr. McDonald

Grade 9 Outdoor Experiential Trip

We are running a fundraiser to help students pay for their Outdoor Experiential Trip in May. Please use the link to put in an order to support one of the students! If you do not have any specific students to support, please choose “Jin Yeo” and we will distribute the funds to all the students who participated in the fundraiser. The fundraiser will end on April 24th and the orders will be ready to pick up at the school around 1-2 weeks after. Please note the student’s name if you’d like the order to be given to your student at the school.

Parking

We kindly ask parents and guardians to please refrain from parking or entering the FFCA Elementary School parking lot. Keeping this area clear helps ensure that staff are able to access the school safely and efficiently.

We also ask families to avoid parking in the bus pick‑up and drop‑off zone at dismissal. This area, located directly in front of the school, is reserved for school buses to support safe and orderly student departure.

We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation and thank you for helping us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all members of our school community.
