The Week Ahead - January 22
Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community,
Each year, the Lunar New Year celebration is organized by a committee of teachers and students for all students to enjoy and usually includes performances, a parade and food. This year our lunar new year celebration is on Feb. 7th. We will be having 2 separate performances. Please see below invitation below for more details.
We will be hosting an online session for grade 9 parent/guardians with regards to high school transitions on February 1 at 6:00pm. Attendance is optional, however, if you have questions regarding transfers, course recommendations, and programming we will answer these then. The link to join is in high school section below. We also strongly encourage you to attend the open house of your designated high school to engage in conversation with them as well. Please also see the high school section further below for more information about course selection recommendations.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Together we can make a difference in keeping each other and our learning environment safe.

Updated: Spotlight on Wellness - Stress
Stress may not be eliminated from life, but there are ways to lower it. Here are some ideas to lower stress:
· Learn better ways to manage your time. Think about which things are most important, and do those first.
· Look at how you have been dealing with stress. Be honest about what works and what does not. Think about other things that might work better.
· Take good care of yourself. Get plenty of rest. Eat well.
· Challenge patterns of thinking that are increasing your stress. Learn to say "no."
· Speak up. Practice talking about your needs and concerns with supportive friends and family.
· Ask for help. People who have a strong network of family and friends manage stress better.
Updates: High School:
High school designations have been confirmed and we have posted a list up on the high school bulletin board at the school. This is the best way for students to figure out their designated high school for next year. We are waiting to distribute high school course selection sheets until report cards are viewable on January 30. Report card marks will help to inform your decisions for course selections for next year.
This year there will be recommendations for the level of programming on the high school course selection sheets. These recommendations indicate where teachers feel your student will experience success as the enter high school based on their current skills and abilities. We are doing this in collaboration with the high schools. If you are not in agreement with the course recommendations, you will need to reach out to the high school and have a conversation about changing the recommendation.
If you are attending our high school information session on Feb 1 at 6pm, please find information to join the Teams meeting below.

Online transfer requests will be accepted until March 15, 2024. The online high school transfer form will be opening on February 1 to accept submissions. A reminder that transfers are not first come first serve, they just must be in by March 15.
