National Indigenous Peoples Day will be on Sunday, June 21st. This is a day to recognize and celebrate the heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Metis Peoples. Today our school came together to recognize and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day through a series of engaging, hands-on learning experiences centered around the Medicine Wheel teachings of Body, Mind, Spirit, and Heart. This was done through the rotation of four interactive stations designed to deepen their understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, identities, and ways of knowing. More details below. 

We will be reminding students all next week to start cleaning out their lockers and taking things home with them. We will collect locks on Friday, June 26th and hope that lockers are mostly cleaned out before then. If your student(s) will not be here on the last day of school, they should clean out their locker ahead of that date and hand the lock to their homeroom teacher. Yearbooks will also be handed out on June 26. We cannot hand out the yearbooks in advance as they contain the names of student award recipients and that assembly is held on June 25. 

Next Friday, we will have our end of school BBQ. We will provide beef hot dogs (vegan for those that can’t have beef), condiments, and juice boxes for students. If this is not suitable for your child, please have them bring their own food/snack.  

Lastly, it is with mixed emotions that we share the following teachers will be moving to another school at the end of the year. We like to thank them for their time and dedication to our school community. We will miss them all and wish them well as they embark on a new teaching and learning journey at their new schools. Congratulation to the following teachers: Ms. Borgeson, Ms. Dhaliwal, Ms. Jordan, Ms. Le, Ms. Yeo and Mr. Bester.

Opportunity: Year-End Staff Appreciation 

Colonel Irvine Parent Advisory Association (CIPAA) would like to support the school administration for all the amazing work they do by organizing our Year End Staff appreciation lunch for all the teachers and staff on June 29.  

We are asking parents/guardians who would usually get gifts for the teachers to instead consider making a donation towards this appreciation lunch. If you would like to, and are able to participate, you can contribute through one of the 3 following options:  

1. Email Transfers to colonelirvineschoolcouncil@gmail.com, password 'LUNCH"  

2. Cash to front office, please send in an envelope marked Staff lunch   

3. Cheque Payable to - COLONEL IRVINE PARENT ADVISORY ASSOCIATION  

Any additional funds raised less the expenses for the lunch will go towards a gift card for each teacher/staff member. 

Please do so by June 25 so we can plan accordingly.

Indigenous Day Activities 

The following learning experiences encouraged students to develop a deeper appreciation for Indigenous histories, perspectives, and contributions while fostering respect, empathy, and a stronger sense of community. Throughout the morning, students engaged in meaningful conversations, collaborative activities, and opportunities for reflection through a rotation of activities. 

Body – To Do: Students participated in a Treaty 7 Map Challenge, exploring traditional territories, Treaty 7 Nations, and the impacts of settlement, transportation networks, and changing borders on Indigenous Peoples and communities. 

  • Mind – To Know: Through Indigenous storytelling and performance, students examined important teachings, values, and historical events. Classes worked collaboratively to interpret stories and present their learning through drama and creative expression. 
  • Spirit – To Be: Students completed a Community Connections Challenge that celebrated the diversity of experiences, cultures, languages, and identities within our school community, emphasizing respect, belonging, and interconnectedness. 
  • Heart – To Belong: Students contributed to a collaborative art installation inspired by the Seven Sacred Teachings—love, respect, courage, honesty, wisdom, humility, and truth—reflecting on how these values strengthen relationships and communities. 

 

Provincial Achievement Tests  

We want to confirm that Grade 6 and 9 students will write Provincial Achievement Tests in May and June. The dates of these remaining exams are below. Please be aware that students cannot write these exams ahead of time. During these tests, no phones or wearable technology (watches, earbuds, smart glasses) are permitted in the exam rooms.

Accessing Report Cards  

Your child’s report card will be available to view, download and/or print starting from June 25, 2025 until July 31, 2026. After this date you will not have access to view them, please ensure that you print or save a copy for your own records. Parents / Legal Guardians can sign into  MyCBE to view student information, including report cards, comments from teachers, assignments and grades, and attendance information. For best access to view student information, sign into the MyCBE portal.
