Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community,

下午好! 学文学校社区,

The month of May has been full of activity for our school. Next week, we will have the Part A of the English Language Art Provincial exam for our grade 6 and 9 students. We are hoping that all students will continue to focus and work hard to finish the school year.

The Grade 6’s will be writing the ELA Part A PAT on Monday, May 25th . The grade 9’s will write on Tuesday, May 26th. Both will run from 9am-1pm. The exam is intended to take about two hours, and all students are allowed to have double that time. Students will have to leave all digital devices in their lockers as per Alberta Education rules. This will include watches.

We encourage students to bring snacks and drinks to the exam. If they usually buy lunch and need the whole time, buying lunch will not be an option, so they will need to pack a lunch. We will make sure that students get a break after the exam to eat their lunches.

Grade 9 students had a great time at YMCA camp. Thank you to Ms. Yeo, the teacher in charge and Mr. Thompson for going on the trip to support the students' experience. We also appreciate our parent volunteers who went on this trip. We are very grateful to have such supportive parents.

Lastly, please look out for paper fee invoices that were sent home this week. Fees can be paid online, or payment can be made at the school via cheque, cash, credit, or debit.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Ms. Ko & Mr. McDonald

Transportation Registration Has Started 2026-2027

Families are now able to apply for yellow school bus service for the 2026-27 school year. Service levels and fees are outlined below. Registration is available through your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, learn how.)

Families must apply by Sunday, June 14, 2026, for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 14 deadline will be delayed. It may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus.

Service levels will remain the same as the current school year with a fee of $500/year per student.

Important Transportation Update – Kincora & Country Hills

With the new school designations affecting students in Kincora and Country Hills who are in regular program, there are important changes to transportation services:

  • Students who choose to remain at Colonel Irvine School instead of attending their newly designated school will qualify for busing for one year only.
  • After this one-year period, transportation will no longer be provided.
  • These students are now classified as conditional riders.
  • Please note that the transportation registration portal for conditional riders will open on June 14.

We encourage families to plan ahead and review these changes carefully when making school and transportation decisions.

Confirmed routes will be posted in MyCBE in August.

Spring Concert:

The Colonel Irvine band and music students are preparing a great show for their end of year concert, which will be held in the Colonel Irvine Gym on Thursday, May 28th. This year, the concert will be split into one for Grade 5/6 (5:30PM) and one for Grade 7/8/9 (7:00PM). Due to the capacity of the gym, there is a limit of 1-2 guests for Gr. 5/6 and 2-3 guests for Gr. 7/8/9. You can reserve your 'pay-what-you-can' tickets at these links: Grade 5/6 Tickets and Grade 7/8/9 Tickets. Please consider donating to help enhance the band program for our students. We hope to see you at the show!

Parking

We kindly ask parents and guardians to please refrain from parking or entering the FFCA Elementary School parking lot. Keeping this area clear helps ensure that staff are able to access the school safely and efficiently.

We also ask families to avoid parking in the bus pick‑up and drop‑off zone at dismissal. This area, located directly in front of the school, is reserved for school buses to support safe and orderly student arrival and departure.

We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation and thank you for helping us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all members of our school community.

Attendance

If your child is missing school, please leave a message on the attendance line prior to 9 am or email colonelirvine@cbe.ab.ca
