The Week Ahead - October 16
This year, for our Grade 7-9's we have Literacy and Wellness blocks which will alternate with our Math Block Friday lessons. Today in our wellness block, students looked at how to foster a positive and inclusive school community. Over our next few Wellness lessons, we continue to engage students as to how they can help build a sense of belonging at the school. In Literacy students accessed levelled texts to focus on how to decode terminology in Science and to practice reading and answering discussion questions. Grade 5 and 6 students will engage in Literacy and Math blocks, and will work on their Health curriculum during Wellness time. Please note that students also have regular classes on Fridays too.
Please remind your child to support our environment by putting trash into the garbage. We have noticed an increase in the amount of garbage left around the school. We have reminded students this week about the importance of picking up after themselves and keeping the neighborhood tidy. We'd like to thank students from Mr. Prather’s class for helping us clean up our school grounds. It is through these activities that we build a strong caring community.
We would like to ask that you try to communicate all after school plans with your student before school starts. When there are emergent situations, if you need us to reach your student for you, we can take a message for the student and share it with them, or if needed have them call you back when appropriate. Please know that if you call close to the end of the day it may not be possible to get a message to your student prior to them exiting the building.
Lastly, we strongly recommend students to return to lunch on time. Students will need to make up for missed instructional time if they choose to return late from lunch. It is not recommended that students go off campus. We strongly recommend students do not go to the 7-11 store on 4th St. across from James Fowler High School during the lunch hour. Older students like to “hang out” there and there is no supervision. We feel that it is safer for students to stay closer to the school.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood
