Good afternoon Colonel Irvine School Community,
下午好! 学文学校社区
As we approach Provincial Achievement Test practices and tests in April, May and June we would like to remind all parents/guardians of the Alberta Education requirement that students are not to have cellphones and other personal mobile devices on them in class. In our school this means Grade 7-9 students can leave them in their lockers and grade 5 and 6 students can keep them in their backpacks. Having one of these devices with you during a Provincial Achievement Test will result in a zero on the test. These changes regarding personal mobile devices were announced last summer to reduce distractions, maximize learning time, support student mental health, and reduce opportunities for cyberbullying during the school day.
In April, May and June we have lots of field trips heading out and also opportunities like Virtual Reality learning coming to the school. We ask that if you have not recently paid your school fees in your myCBE account to please do this. We would also like to remind parents/guardians that going offsite on a field trip is a privilege and that if a student cannot be trusted in class and/or school that they may not be permitted on field trips.
We are starting some of our planning for next year. During option classes on May 5 and 6 our grade 6, 7 and 8 students will select option courses in Powerschool for next year. We will send a separate message to parents with more information about this.
Do you have a student in Music or Band? The band council is looking for more parent volunteers. They have 2 positions they need support with: Fundraising Coordinator and Chair. If you are interested in helping out please reach out to Ms. Hammond (bohammond@cbe.ab.ca).
Thank you for your continued support.
Ms. Ko & Ms. Dalwood

Before High School graduation, one-third of adolescent girls will experience depression, anxiety disorders, self-harm or an eating disorder. However, there is an incredible power in caregivers who can support our youth, both young women and men, before they seek therapy. At Juno House®, we believe in the extraordinary healing power of parents, caregivers, coaches, and teachers. In our 1.5 hour workshop presentation, we will share steps and strategies from the Juno House Therapeutic Model® that will provide effective emotional coaching tools for today’s youth as they develop through adolescence and into young adulthood.
Presenters include Andrea Halwas Larsen, PhD, CT, REACE Counselling Therapist Associate Therapist and Education Coordinator at Juno House.
