Good afternoon Colonel Irvine School Community,
This past weekend a group of our students competed in the Calgary Youth Science Fair. For most of them it was their first time, and the research and presentations they put together were fantastic. Some won medals and our founding student (who started this club) made the National Team and will be heading to Fredericton for the Canada-Wide Science Fair. Congratulations to all the students who dedicated so much time and energy to their projects and a big thank you to Mr. Thompson for supporting their work.
In previous years bikes have been stolen from the front of the school even when they are locked to the railing. We encourage students who are riding bikes to school to lock their bikes at the racks inside the courtyard instead.
A reminder that there is not any school Friday, April 18 or Monday, April 21.
We expect that next week the four modular classrooms will be moved onsite. The tentative dates are April 23 and 24. For these days students will not be permitted to go outside on the fields during class and lunchtime. A separate email was sent out on Wednesday.
On Monday, a group of our grade 9 Mandarin program students are headed to Vancouver for the week to learn more about Chinese culture and history in that city and to hopefully put their Mandarin into practice. We hope they have a great trip.
Information about the Math 15 prep course this summer for students headed to high school next year is available below. The process is different from previous years so please be sure to read through and let us know if you are interested in this for your student.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Together we can achieve more.
Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood

Math 15 Summer School
- Please read the details below and if you want to register your Gr 9 student, please email Ms. Elkhatib (naelkhatib@cbe.ab.ca).
- Some useful information about this course:
- Math 15 is a useful course to fill gaps in preparation for grade 10 math, it does not teach grade 10 math concepts
- Will need to complete "Essentials Course" prior to Math 15. This teaches how to navigate D2L
- Students need to be independent, motivated, good with time management and have strong self-advocacy skills as this is taught at a fast pace
- Students will gain access to this online course on June 24 but will not have access to teachers until June 26
- Every student must confirm that they are able to access the Math 15 course shell (in Brightspace/D2L) by June 26
- This course is an asynchronous course:
- This means there are no mandatory online meetings/classes with the teacher
- Teachers will send a schedule for when they will meet and offer office hours
- Communication with the teacher, through the D2L shell is critical to a student’s success
- Need to engage daily for 2-3 hours
- Can not be done from outside of Canada and need access to a computer with a camera and microphone
- Colonel Irvine will register students. Registration will take place from May 5th to May 9th
