Good afternoon Colonel Irvine School Community,

下午好! 学文学校社区

It’s hard to believe that we are in the month of April and that we are in the middle of a snow dump. Calgary weather is amazing... This week students started their third trimester option classes.

This week we had our badminton tryouts. We had over 100 student athletes showing off their skills and vying for a spot on one of the three teams we’ll have this season. Good luck to all students trying out.

We are beginning to get plans in place for end of the year celebrations. Grade 9 Farewell celebrations are set for June 18; this will be their activity day. June 24 will be the Farewell ceremony that parents are welcome to attend. A student dance for the 9’s only will be in the afternoon. All events will take place during school hours. Planning has already started as the students were able to vote on the theme for this year's festivities. As we continue to finalize the details for the Grade 9 Farewell, we will keep you informed of any further updates or important information.

We will also hold our annual Awards Assembly for all grades on Wednesday, June 25th in the morning. Parents/guardians of the students receiving awards will be sent invitations. More details will follow in June.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Ms. Ko & Mr. McDonald

School Council

Vote! We need your voice!

Hello Colonel Irvine School, parents & guardians,

Did you know that parents have the opportunity to shape the future of Alberta's public education system? Every year, parents can propose that school councils put forward advocacy resolutions that are presented at the Alberta School Councils' Association (ASCA) annual general meeting in the spring.

At our next school council meeting on April 14th, we will discuss this year’s Advocacy Resolutions and decide whether to support these policies. Then, one of our parent representatives will attend the ASCA AGM and vote along with other school council representatives. Resolutions that receive majority support from the voting members become statements, or directions for action, and form official advocacy positions of ASCA.

Please join us. Your voice matters. Your vote matters.

Athletics

Badminton

There are 3 teams, Juniors (grade 6 & 7 students), Intermediate (grade 8 students) and Senior (grade 9 students). Each team will consist of 22 students, 11 of each gender. 2 single players, 6 doubles players, 2 mixed doubles players and 1 alternate player. The alternate player will practice all the positions and usually gets 2 games at the Divisionals against the other school alternates, but THIS IS NOT GUARANTEED. They may not get to play at all – unless someone from the team is injured, then they will step in playing all the games of the injured player.

We also ask families to avoid parking in the bus pick‑up and drop‑off zone at dismissal. This area, located directly in front of the school, is reserved for school buses to support safe and orderly student departure.

We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation and thank you for helping us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all members of our school community.
