Good Afternoon Colonel Irvine School Community,

下午好! 学文学校社区,

Firstly, we’d like to thank the Colonel Irvine School Parent Advisory Association (CIPAA) and all parents that donated generously for providing our staff with a delicious lunch today. We are so appreciative and thankful for the support of our School Council and CIPAA and we are grateful for the time together as a whole staff. We also took this time to celebrate our long-standing Facility Operator, Jim Stewart, who will be retiring at the end of next week. If you have any well wishes for him, we’d be happy to pass them along to him. He has been a big part of our school community and know that both staff and students alike will miss him.

Our grade 9 leadership students helped plan our first Pep Rally today. Teachers were put through a variety of challenges/torture for the student’s entertainment. Hopefully your students shared with you some of the antics. This pep rally was to have some fun, build more community spirit and help us to reach our $4000 goal for the Terry Fox Foundation by next Friday. Kudos to our leadership students and Ms. Melanie Lee for planning the event and to all the teachers who participated.  Thank you to STUCO led by Mr. Luke Bester and Mr. Cheema Sanpreet for spearheading the sale of candygrams last week and this week. These were delivered today to students in their homeroom.

Our annual Winter band concert was on Tuesday this week. It was fantastic to see so many supportive family members and friends at Diefenbaker for this event. The students performed wonderfully. Thank you for Mr. Haller and Ms. Hammond for all their preparation for this event.

Our wrestling team had their first quad meet of the season at Colonel McLeod. Several of our new wrestlers showcased their skills and won all or most of their matches, while others faced tough opponents and gained valuable experience. Overall, our students gave it their all, and the meet was a success.

This week kicked off our holiday food drive. We are encouraging everyone, if possible, to bring in at least one non-perishable food item for our annual Mayor Food Drive. They are asking for any food that is not in glass jars. They specifically need canned pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, pasta, rice, diapers and formula. We will see which homeroom collects the greatest number of items per homeroom. There will be a surprise for the victorious homeroom.

If you or a family at our school that you know would benefit from a holiday hamper please let Nadia Elkhatib know at naelkhatib@cbe.ab.ca

Finally, it is hard to believe that next week is the last day of classes before the Winter Break. For the last week of classes (Dec 16-20), our Student Council is planning dress up/theme days, and some special activities.

Monday – PJ Day

Tuesday – Twin Day

Wednesday – Dress like a teacher day

Thursday – Anything but a backpack/binder day OR Jersey day

Friday – Formal Friday or Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

Lastly, we encourage all students to work hard this coming week to complete their schoolwork, as we want them (and parents/guardians) to enjoy a school/homework free winter break. Students will have until January 10, 2025 to hand in missing work to teachers. This deadline is necessary to give teachers enough time to assess the work before report cards are available online at the end of January.  Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about these dates.

Thank you as always for your attention to our messages and for your support of the school.

Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood

Colonel Irvine School Casino Fundraiser 2025

Thank you for all that have signed up, we are still in need of a few more volunteers and some back up volunteers for the Colonel Irvine School Casino which will be held on January 11 & 12, 2025 (a Saturday and Sunday).

We need your support! This fundraiser has been a crucial event that helps us raise over $50,000 annually. These funds are vital for purchasing equipment and resources that benefit both our students and teachers, enhancing the overall educational experience.

Your participation is essential to the success of this event. Volunteering is a fun and fantastic way to connect with other volunteers and make a direct impact on our school community. Even a few hours of your time can make a significant difference.
