Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community,
下午好! 学文学校社区,
It is a short week, with Thursday and Friday being non-instructional days for students. Teachers are engaged in professional learning these two days.
A reminder that course selection sheets for high school for our Grade 9 students are due back to the homeroom teachers as soon as possible. Even if students have applied for a transfer, they must return the form for the designated high school.
A reminder that you will not receive a weekly update from teachers this week, the one sent last Friday should have covered two weeks.
If your student has an IPP to support their learning, these will start to go home today and will be sent either as a paper copy or be emailed to you. If you have not received a copy by the end of next week, please reach out to Ms. Elkhatib (naelkhatib@cbe.ab.ca)
We want to confirm that Grade 6 and 9 students will write Provincial Achievement Tests in May and June. The dates of these exams are below. Please be aware that students cannot write these exams ahead of time. We will share many more details closer to the May writing date. Grade 6 and 9 students will take Provincial Achievement Tests in May and June. During these tests, no phones or wearable technology (watches, earbuds) are permitted in the exam rooms. If your son/daughter requires their phone with them in an exam writing room for medical reasons (like diabetes monitoring) please email Ms. Dalwood (nadalwood@cbe.ab.ca) by February 21 as she will need to apply for an exemption.
May 28 – Grade 6 English Language Arts Part A
May 29 – Grade 9 English Language Arts Part A
June 13 – Grade 6 & 9 Math Part A
June 16 – Grade 6 & 9 English Language Arts Part B
June 17 – Grade 6 & 9 Math Part B
June 18 – Grade 6 & 9 Social Studies
June 19 – Grade 9 Science (there will not be a grade 6 Science PAT)
Students who are new to the country this year, or whose mental health may be adversely impacted by writing the PAT’s can request an exemption to writing the PATs. Please contact Ms. Dalwood to discuss exemptions (nadalwood@cbe.ab.ca).
It has come to our attention that students are sometimes wanting to use $50 and $100 bills when paying in our cafeteria. We do not have the ability to make change for such large bills. If your student presents a large bill for payment, it will be returned to them and they will not be able to make purchases with it. Thank you for your help with this.
Lastly, high school transfers are open online, see the high school section below for more information.
Thank you for your continued support in building and fostering a strong school community.
Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood

Grade 9 Graduation Pictures
We encourage the Grade 9's to dress up nicely! It's their chance to take a nice image to commemorate their time at Colonel Irvine. Lifetouch will produce a class composite from all images taken and students have the opportunity to purchase those 11x14 composites with a folder. It's a great keepsake!
Athletics
As volleyball games start CBE middle schools have set similar expectations for games that promote safety, respect, and a positive experience for all. They include:
• All visiting student spectators/athletes must be under the direct supervision of a designated adult for the duration of the games.
• Student spectators without parental supervision will be directed by the hosting school administration to leave the building.
• All spectators - students or adults - are expected to cheer and support players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner.
• Disrespectful behaviours will be addressed by school administration promptly and may result in spectators being directed to leave the game and the school building.
• Parents/guardians who bring younger children are always responsible for their direct supervision. Please ensure that they are not wandering the halls and playing on stage or with any equipment.
These expectations have been reviewed by all our students in school. Please review with your student(s) as well. We thank you in advance for your ongoing support.
