Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community,
下午好! 学文学校社区,
National Indigenous Peoples Day is tomorrow, June 21. This is a day to recognize and celebrate the heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Metis Peoples. Our grade 5’s and 6’s went to Nosehill Park yesterday and our grade 7’s and 8’s will have a land base learning opportunity at Nosehill next week.
We will continue to advance understanding of Truth and ReconciliACTION with students, staff and families. We will continue as a school community, to commit to increasing our personal and professional knowledge of Indigenous Peoples, their history and contributions as well as the effects of treaties and residential schools. We will build student and teacher capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect. We strive to strengthen Indigenous Education by weaving Indigenous ways of knowing in different curricular areas. In making our commitment, Call to Action #65 from the Truth and Reconciliation Report offered inspiration.
We will be reminding students all next week to start cleaning out their lockers and taking things home with them. We will collect locks on Thursday, June 26 and hope that lockers are mostly cleaned out before then. If your student(s) will not be here on the last day of school, they should clean out their locker ahead of that date and hand the lock to their homeroom teacher. Yearbooks will also be handed out June 26. We cannot hand out the yearbooks in advance as they contain the names of student award recipients and that assembly is held on June 26.
We would like to congratulate Mr. Andreasen on his move to Centennial High School in the Fall. He has been an important member of our school community and will be missed by students and staff.
Preliminary PAT results for the Grade 6’s and 9’s will be sent home with them next week. The grade 6’s will be sent home Monday and 9’s on Wednesday.
Lastly, a reminder that we have both students and staff that are allergic and sensitive to strong smells. If you are attending the Farewell next week, or have been invited to the awards assembly we ask that you do not wear perfumes/colognes.
Monday is last day of cafeteria service. Please send food with your students on Tuesday.
Thursday we will have our end of school BBQ. We will provide beef burgers, vegetable alternative (if beef is not an option for the student) buns, condiments and juice boxes for students.
Thank you for your continued support. We hope you have a nice weekend.
Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood
