Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community,
下午好! 学文学校社区,
Today we had our fourth fire drill of the year. We have two more left. Students were also treated with seeing teachers and admin subjected to the ice bucket challenge as they raised over $500 for the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
The Gr 8/9 band returned home from a three-day trip in Edmonton. They had a performance at Esther Starkman School (also a Mandarin school). Both their 8/9 band and our band performed, it was a great experience for both groups. On Thursday, we had a chance to watch an open dress rehearsal of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton. This was an inspiring performance/rehearsal by a very well recognized Symphony Orchestra. On Thursday afternoon, the band went to Archbishop Macdonald High School where they received clinics from H.S. students and then had a rehearsal with a guest conductor. We also went to the Royal Alberta Museum. The trip was jam packed with music and cultural activities along with some fun activities mixed in.
All of our current grade 6,7 and 8 students had the opportunity to make requests for their complementary (options) courses for next year. Over the next few weeks, we will review this data and finalize the complementary courses we will offer for next year. Students will not know their option classes until after they return from summer break. If you would like to review the courses your student(s) picked for next year you can review this in myCBE.
More information about the grade 9 Farewell ceremonies is available below. Please read if you have a student in grade 9.
June 13 will be the last day that students can turn in assignments to have the marks reflected on the June report card. We encourage students and parents to review assignments in PowerSchool and if work is missing, speak with your teachers about what needs to be done/can be done before June 13.
Thank you for your continued support.
Mr. Kitchen (Acting Principal) & Ms. Dalwood

Gr 9 Farewell Ceremony – action required
The theme for the ceremony this year will be “Enchanted Garden,” this was voted on by the Grade 9 classes. It will be held on June 24 at the school.
Please find below TENTATIVE timing and info for the ceremonies. We will continue to share more details as the planning progresses.
8:45am – 9A, 9B, 9C, 9D
10:30 am – 9E, 9F, 9G
We would like the Farewell to be a special occasion, and therefore ask students, if possible, to dress-up for the day. This will mean different things for different students. However, costumes are not appropriate. Please do not go out of your way to spend lots of money for this ceremony. Save that for high school graduation.
We also would like all gr 9 students to upload their baby photos for display at the Farewell ceremony. They can do this in their PE D2L shell. Please note that the deadline for submission is May 16th.
Transportation Registration for the 25-26 school year has been delayed
More information will be shared once the issues around new walk zones have been resolved. See email from CBE for more details.
