Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community,
下午好! 学文学校社区,
We would like to thank all the parents that joined us for our School Council/Band Council and Parent Advisory meeting on Tuesday evening. It was nice to see returning faces and to meet some new parents. We are extremely fortunate to have a council to support our learning community. If you missed this meeting and are interested in participating this year, the next meeting will be an online meeting on Tuesday, October 21st at 6:30pm. The meeting link and agenda will be shared the Friday before and another email will be sent the day of as a reminder for parents.
We had our annual Terry Fox Run yesterday afternoon. It was great to see our students get into the spirit of walking or running this year. We’d like to thank our parent volunteers who came out to support us and a big shout out to Ms. Yeo for organizing our run.
We will be having a bubble tea fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 26th. We are again partnering with Gong Cha (Marlborough location) to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation (TFF). Students can purchase mango slush with pearls or a milk tea with pearls for $8. Students need to pre-order for their drinks. Please note that we will not be able to provide any refunds if your child is absent on that day. Pre-orders will be available next week. All proceeds will go towards TFF. Unfortunately, so many are affected by cancer directly and indirectly. We are proud to support this cause annually. This year we have a goal of raising $4500 for the TFF. Donations can also be made online at https://schools.terryfox.ca/97402 Thank you to all the students who brought in donations this week. We are encouraging a Toonie for Terry on Tuesdays. We are grateful for the generosity of our students and families. Together we can make a difference.
On Thursday, September 25th we will be encouraging students to wear orange shirts to school. The official National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day this year is Tuesday, September 30th. The day honors the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. Teachers will be embedding Indigenous Ways of knowing into their lessons when feasible. This is our school’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
Lastly, we’ve received an email from the Plaza management beside our school to remind parents that the Plaza parking lot, and back parking areas, are not to be used as a waiting area for student pick up or drop off in particular from 2:30 – 3:30. Parking is for patrons of the Plaza. Please be respectful to the businesses in our neighborhood.
Thank you for your continued support.
Ms. Ko & Mr. Ferguson

Spectators at school sporting events
CBE middle schools have set similar expectations for games that promote safety, respect, and a positive experience for all. They include:
- All visiting student spectators/athletes must be under the direct supervision of a designated adult for the duration of the games.
- There are no in and out privileges for spectators. If you leave the building, you should not re-enter.
- Student spectators without parental supervision will be directed by the hosting school administration to leave the building.
- Cell phones must remain in bags. No photos or recordings can be made by students. This is a privacy concern for the athletes from all teams.
- Parents are asked to be mindful if they are taking photos or videos of their child. The privacy of other student athletes should be considered.
- All spectators - students or adults - are expected to cheer and support players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner.
- Disrespectful behaviours will be addressed by school administration promptly and may result in spectators being directed to leave the game and the school building.
- Parents/guardians who bring younger children are responsible at all times for their direct supervision. Please ensure that they are not wandering the halls and playing on phys ed equipment in the gym/on stage
These expectations have been reviewed with all of our students in school. Please review with your student(s) as well. We thank you in advance for your ongoing support.

Lunch Hour Fees
For all grade 7-9 students there is a one-time noon hour fee added to your accounts. The $30 noon hour activity fee covers these items:
School BBQ lunches – Sept & June
Snacks/treats (once/twice a year)
Sports equipment to play with during lunchtime
Chairs/benches/tables for use during lunchtime
Swimming in June
A very small amount goes to keep the cafeteria open to offer hot food
This fee is different from the K-6 fee which is monthly and covers lunchtime supervision.
