Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community.
下午好! 学文学校社区,
Thank you to all the students and staff for wearing orange to school in support of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation also known as Orange Shirt Day. For more information on events taking place for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation in Calgary, you can visit https://www.calgary.ca/events/orange-shirt-day.html
Monday is a non-instructional day for all CBE schools. Our teachers will be starting our book study “Disciplinary Literacy in Action”. The non-instructional days provide our staff with time to collaborate with each other to best support the teaching and learning of our students.
So far, we have raised almost $565 ($370 online) for the Terry Fox Foundation. (This total does not include our bubble tea sales) Thank you to all families that supported our bubble tea fundraiser today. We will continue to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation. We are hoping to reach our goal of $4500 this year. Together “we can finish it”. This is the theme from the Terry Fox Foundation. We will continue to collect “toonies” for Terry at the main office and donations can also be made online at https://schools.terryfox.ca/97402.
We’d like to remind your child to be on time for classes. We want to help students form good habits. We have some students arriving late in the mornings or returning late for instructional time after lunch. Moving forward, students will be required to make up for the loss of instructional time during the following lunch period. We encourage students to stay on campus and if students do go off campus, to come back on time. An email will be sent home if students are late after lunch or consistently arriving late in the mornings.
Thank you for your continued support and enjoy the long weekend.
Ms. Ko and Mr. Ferguson

Spectators at school sporting events
CBE middle schools have set similar expectations for games that promote safety, respect, and a positive experience for all. They include:
- All visiting student spectators/athletes must be under the direct supervision of a designated adult for the duration of the games.
- There are no in and out privileges for spectators. If you leave the building, you should not re-enter.
- Student spectators without parental supervision will be directed by the hosting school administration to leave the building.
- Cell phones must remain in bags. No photos or recordings can be made by students. This is a privacy concern for the athletes from all teams.
- Parents are asked to be mindful if they are taking photos or videos of their child. The privacy of other student athletes should be considered.
- All spectators - students or adults - are expected to cheer and support players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner.
- Disrespectful behaviours will be addressed by school administration promptly and may result in spectators being directed to leave the game and the school building.
- Parents/guardians who bring younger children are responsible at all times for their direct supervision. Please ensure that they are not wandering the halls and playing on phys ed equipment in the gym/on stage
These expectations have been reviewed with all of our students in school. Please review with your student(s) as well. We thank you in advance for your ongoing support.

Community resources:
The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community.
Attached to this email is a poster with sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Along with the poster, additional session details are available on the Child and Youth Family and Caregiver Series public facing page.
